You can imagine how many times I’ve been asked, “What’s in your oil?” Or, “How did you make your BB’S Oil?” Well, the first is easy – the ingredients are advertised. As to the second, I’d never made oil before, but I was going to learn from the best oil producers in the Cook Islands.
The best advice given by Aunty Tua was to make my own oil. Mauke is also known as the food basket of the Cook Islands, so discovering moringa growing prolifically was such a bonus.
Moringa Oleifera is also known as the “Tree of Life”. It’s full of 92 vitamins, minerals and antioxidants – so much goodness packed into the entire tree from the roots to the tips of the leaves. I love it. Powered or fresh, its in my food and drinks.
Everyone who’s made coconut oil has a method. Whether you're cooking, fermenting or cold press, the end product may look the same but the quality varies. Changes can also occur if the ingredients and their weight differ.
Unlike a favourite family chocolate cake – we can all use the same recipe and the same ingredients, but we each have that individual touch that adds a special uniqueness to the end product.
With all that said, I've tested many varieties of coconuts and its oil; and in my opinion, the proof is in the pudding. Handmade and your own special uniqueness. So, what's the secret you ask? It's all in the method.
